Good morning, my lovelies.
It’s so good to see you again. How’s your week going? How’re the kids? Are you caught up on Big Brother? Good. Lovely. Champion.
So this year was the first year I have celebrated Chinese New Year and it was sha-mazing, so of course I wanted to share it with you all. For those of you who don’t know, Jason is Chinese, and so I’m really lucky that I’ve been introduced to so many lovely parts of Chinese tradition.
An important time of year is Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival as it is sometimes called, and I was really excited to celebrate it with him and his family last weekend. Lots of food, lots of great company and fireworks!
This year is the year of the Rooster! The day started with Jason’s dad giving us red envelopes with money inside. Then we walked Mei Lan, the little beauty and headed to Manchester to collect the food. We always manage to get too much food for meals, even though there’s only the three of us, so with 8 people to feed we definitely went over the top.
With 3 bags of food from our favourite restaurant Tai Pan, we headed back and got the table ready to go.
From fish stew to char Sui pork, I ate a lot. And I mean, a lot. It’s impossible not to fill up on so much amazing food. I’m only human, okay? Judge me not. I’m also getting pretty impressive with chop sticks, although I think determination to eat massive amounts of food has encouraged that talent.
After food we set off fireworks in the garden, and I hung desperately out of the window to get some pictures (they weren’t too bad though, so it was worth it).
Okay, they weren’t great.
So I wish you all good luck and prosperity in the year of the Rooster! Fancy finding out what your birth year is? I’ve got a little table below!
