Right before I left for Germany, I had a clear out of my phone. I knew I’d be taking a million pictures, and didn’t want to be frantically deleting videos through the holiday. Now, there are two big storage eaters on my phone – my photos and my Apple Music. So I decided to get rid of a lot of songs, which helped massively.
It wasn’t until I was on the ferry that I realised that I’d deleted so many songs that make me get my groove on. I was devastated. I didn’t want to waste my holiday downloading them all again (because hello, schnitzel awaited me), so I decided to get full on DJ when I got home.
One thing to know about me is that I love all music. Flick through my iPod and you’ll find Britney Spears, Pink Floyd, Dragonforce, Westlife, Evanescence, give and more. My music is basically an interpretation of how random my head is. But I know that deep down, everyone loves a bit of cheesy nostalgic 90s music. We all do. We love it when we find something we haven’t heard in ages. So I decided to group together some absolute legends just for you.
So get ready to sing your heart out, mumble “this is my tune!” and wiggle your bum. Here is the 90s to 00s Nostalgia playlist.
- Billie Piper – Day & Night
You just can’t have a 90s playlist without Billie Piper. We all know the love we had for her, despite the short lived music career. You probably fell in love with her in Dr Who as well (I know I did), but feel free to love her again with this absolute belter. You could also check out Honey To The Bee and Because We Want To, as well!
- Britney Spears – Sometimes
This is an obvious one, but a golden oldie. There’s just something about dressing in white and singing on a pier that really gets me emotional. And an idol encouraging girls to tell their guys to wait? Always good.
- 5ive – Slam Dunk (Da Funk)
If you haven’t had chance to Slam dunk da funk lately, then this song is for you. Funks are being slammed everywhere, with some serious hair curtains.
- A1 – Same Old Brand New You
You probably listened to this song when you were a young’un, playing out, finding buttercups and just generally growing up. But I can almost guarantee that you can relate to this absolute tune. It gets to the adults, too!
- Steps – It’s The Way You Make Me Feel
I very much doubt there’s a single girl out there who didn’t want to be in this music video. The dresses, the hair, the romance! And seeing someone in a group have braces made me totally feel better about having braces, too. Even years later. I LOVE YOU, LISA. And Lee, what a dream boat! (I also recommend Say You’ll Be Mine. The video is pure gold.)
- Westlife – Flying Without Wings
I rekindled my love for this song after the Christmas advert with the turkey (you all know it, it tugged on our heart strings and hit our funny bone). It’s beautiful, it’s a tune. And don’t tell me you didn’t hairbrush sing this when you were a kid.
- Savage Garden – Truly Madly Deeply
No. Words. Needed.
- B*Witched – C’est La Vie
Some people say I look like me da. We all tried to river dance this at the school disco, don’t even lie to me! But if you want to see even more double denim, hit up another one of their songs called Rollercoaster. Dance moves to learn from, girls.
- Eiffel 65 – Blue (Da Ba Dee)
Blue his house, with a blue little window?
- N Sync – Bye Bye Bye
This list should not exist without N Sync. We all know the feelings we had for Justin, even back then, and may they continue for many years. Even with those blonde tips, he made me feel things.
- Aqua – Doctor Jones
Of course, I could’ve gone for Barbie Girl. But I really loved this song. It was a tune. Feel free to check out Barbie Girl though, that’s legendary as well.
- Cartoons – Witch Doctor
Until this very moment, I thought Aqua sang this song. I used to love it anyway, and it will get stuck in your head, so I apologise in advance. But not really.
- Vengaboys – We Like To Party! (The Venga Bus)
When this comes on in any club or bar, you can guarantee that everyone will hit the dance floor, even in their mid 20s. The Vengaboys were massive, amazing and bring up the nostalgic feelings in even the gothiest of 90s kids. And I’m not being funny, but this fashion is totally back in!Or if you’re wanting We’re Going to Ibiza, that’s cool too! Although we all thought it was going to eat pizza, and if you say you didn’t, you’re lying.
- Backstreet Boys – Everybody (Backstreets Back)
With every beat of my heart and every fibre of my being, wanted to be in this music video. It was everything to me – and so were the dance moves. Who did you want to be? The werewolf, of course! That fur coat. Or if you fancy listening to Larger Than Life, also a tune!Anybody fancy a blogger get together to learn these dance moves? No? You sure? Okay.
- Jessica Simpson – Irresistable
Short lived, but a tune that was regularly played on Smash Hits. I wanted that leather outfit, SO BAD.
- Christina Aguilera – Come On Over
CAMOUFLAGE PANTS ALERT. NOT A DRILL GUYS. BANDANAS. DANCING.
- Avril Lavigne – Sk8er Boi
I loved, adored, wanted to be Avril Lavigne. Every second of my teenage years. The hair, the belts, the sweat bands, the eyeliner. Shame I couldn’t play guitar or sing.
- Jennifer Lopez – Jenny from the Block
She’s just a normal girl, peeps.
- Destiny’s Child – Jumpin’, Jumpin’
Just because you’re in a relationship doesn’t mean you can’t hit the clubs and shake your ass, girls. ALL THE YES.
- TLC – No Scrubs
Girl power, all the way. There was nothing better than sassing this song out with your best friends, waggling you finger and just being a general sassy diva. Loved it. Still do!
I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it! I’m just going to put on my white washed jeans, crimp my hair and be on my way.
What are your growing up nostalgia tunes? Tell me!
