Anyone who follows me on Twitter, or happens to brush past me in the street, knows that my boyfriend bought a dog on the weekend. Wait, you didn’t know? Oh. You mustn’t have received the memo.
So yes, his dad bought a Golden Retriever puppy. 8 weeks old, peaceful (or so we thought) and as cute as a button. This is what I’ve learnt about her since we picked her up:
- Being sick in the car 4+ times is regular.
- Poo’ing is always a possibility.
- Flowers are pretty, but you can also stick your face in them.
- Eating spiders is acceptable.
- Pollen on white fur looks weird.
- Chewing human ears is cute. (Except at 11pm.)
When we first picked her up, she was missing fur on her face, legs and tummy. She’d had an allergic reaction to the flea powder the breeder had used on her. You can probably see it a little bit in the picture above – but it’s growing back fast and she’s doing well.
I’m not going to pretend like I know everything about dogs. I have 3 of my own at home, as you probably know (my beautiful border collies), but I think it’s impossible to know everything or to fully prepare yourself. Something will always surprise you because every dog is different.
Mei Lan (beautiful orchid), for example, is happy to entertain herself. My puppies were never like this. They wanted attention constantly and if they didn’t get it, they’d cry. But Mei Lan can sit outside, by herself, happily chewing her rope.
Or, her favourite position, is sleeping next to Jason’s dads shoes whenever she’s not with him. So without further ado, here are a few more pictures of this beautiful baby.
